 Tell-Tale Tales: An Introduction to Edgar Allan Poe Spinner of such classics as “ The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven,” Edgar Allan Poe’s work delightfully frightens even today. We’ll learn all about his life and work in the 1800s and re-tell some of his most famous tales and poems. Robert Pinsky on Edgar Allen Poe Acclaimed poet Robert Pinsky reads and discusses selections from the work of Edgar Allen Poe (1809-1849) in conjunction with the exhibition "Edgar Allen Poe: Terror of the Soul" at the Morgan Library. Former United States Poet Laureate (1997–2000) Robert Pinsky has published more than 20 books as a poet, editor, and translator, and has recently released the album PoemJazz, a collaboration with Laurence Hobgood. He has received many honors, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the PEN American Center.

The Big Read of Edgar Allan Poe with Nancy Holder in San Diego Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore is proud to partner with WriteOutLoud to host a Big Read celebration of the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, The Big Read program seeks to ensure that reading remains at the center of American culture. Our featured author for this event will be NY Times best selling author Nancy Holder, discussing Poe and his influence on horror writing. In honor of World Book Night, 20 copies of The Great Tales & Poems of Edgar Allan Poe will be distributed for attendees to share with light and non-readers.
Also participating will be members of WriteOutLoud. WriteOutLoud is a collective of actors, who read and perform literary works in order to inspire in their audience a shared passion for reading. The event is part of WriteOutLoud's Shades of Poe program, a month-long community-wide celebration of the works of Edgar Allen Poe, featuring readings, discussions, film screenings and presentations of original works inspired by Poe.
