My Review: I expected to enjoy this book as a light and somewhat serious historical romance and what I found was that and more with the descriptions of the Grand Canyon, reading about the beautiful depths of the canyon was so interesting and is was as though I was there – which would be amazing – the details were written so we’ll. This did end with some sadness but much sweetness.

Rating: 4 stars,

Recommendation: 16 up for romance and slight violent mentions (can give details if wanted.)

Verse: Deuteronomy 13:4 Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.(King James Version.) (Not only was this verse the verse of the day, but it also fits the book and how the characters needed to grow.)

Never Hire a Hero is quite an entertaining read, and one that was quite unexpected.

Stephen Roth is hired by Thea to be a tutor to her two sons, but what neither Roth nor Thea know is the powerful influence Roth with infuse into the household that is still in mourning after the death of their patriarch.

Roth pairs with the children nicely, and some of my favorite parts were the whole family doing normal things, like taking a meal together, and bearing witness to their interactions as Roth instructs the children. It’s clear from the beginning they all have an undeniable chemistry, as Roth is able to turn this household on its head and help for the better.

There were so many scenes that captured my heart, and the more I read the more I fell in love, which isn’t surprising since a marriage of convenience is one of my favorite troupes.

I do have to admit that this novel took me a few chapters to get into. I was a little bored until the mysterious occurrences intensified and then I couldn’t put it down. I did guess the culprit early on, but it didn’t take away from the dramatic ending whatsoever, and I was elated to see such a picturesque resolution.

Overall, the novel has a nice flow, the characters are wonderful (especially the children), and I loved the overall premise. Though it does have a slow start, it is well worth it to stick it out as it ended up being a pretty fun read that put me even more into the holiday spirit.

If you are on the hunt for a book that will sweep you away to a different time and place, Never Hire a Hero by Regina Scott is for you.

Scott gives readers a strong heroine in Lady Thea Alldene—one who runs her estate as well as she can. When Stephen Roth becomes the children’s nanny, he not only understands his three charges, he sees and appreciates the strength in his employer.

This slow-burn romance includes three siblings with well-written personalities (I loved Audra’s enthusiasm for learning to box and fence), a treasure hunt, a villain I disliked from the get go, and a marriage of convenience. And Scott combines them for an entertaining rem

Regina Scott’s books are a delicious treat. I loved Never Hire a Hero. I’ve enjoyed getting to know each of these Batavarian elite soldiers as they’ve come to England with their prince and found love.

I’ve been eagerly anticipating Stephen’s story especially knowing he’d have the terrifying challenge of being a tutor to small children. This story is even better than I imagined and I loved the added mystery of a hidden treasure and scheming guardian. There’re also appearances from former colleagues and friends, and that mischievous matchmaking cat Fortune.

The romance between Stephen and Thea, the Countess of Alldene is a delightful slow-burn romance with a marriage of convenience thrown into the mix. I loved the reverse governess trope with a male tutor. Thea is a force to be reckoned with once she gets her confidence back. I loved their fencing lessons! I also enjoyed Stephen who was so supportive of her role and decisions and became a strong shoulder to lean on.

The Countess’ three children are delightful and well written. I loved how Stephen became such a wonderful stepfather to them. His hidden past is finally revealed and I appreciated the messages of forgiveness and redemption. The fun Christmas time setting was an added bonus with all the enjoyable Regency Christmas traditions.

Highly recommend to Regency romance fans! It’s a sweet, clean romance with endearing characters, a swoon worthy love story, a treasure hunt, and three adorable children. Though it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
