Armand-Désiré de Vignerot du Plessis-Richelieu, duc d’Aiguillon, the wealthiest nobleman in France, inherited his title from his father Emmanuel-Armand de Vignerot du Plessis-Richelieu (1720-1788). He served as a colonel in the army of King Louis XVI. In 1789, he was one of the first aristocrats to join the French Revolution.
