Author was born in Dublin, but the family moved to London early in her life, and she later lived in Germany and France. Published her first novel in 1854, but majority of her 40 works came out after her husband died in 1875. She originally wrote anonymously, Mrs Alexander initially wrote anonymously, but shortly before her husband died, she adapted his given name, Alexander, and wrote as 'Mrs Alexander'.
