Princess Ileana was the third and youngest daughter of King Ferdinand I of Romania and Queen Marie (daughter of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, and a granddaughter of Queen Victoria). In 1901, Princess Ileana married the Hapsburg archduke Stephen Anton of Austria-Lorraine, and the couple had six children. They later divorced, and Princess Ileana married secondly Dr. Stefan Issarescu; this marriage also ended in divorce. Princess Ileana became a nun as Mother Alexandra and her published works included I Live Again (1951) and Hospital of the Queen’s Heart (1954)
