Elaine Allen was the pen name of Maude King Alexander. She was the step-daughter of J. R. Watkins and her brother was E. L. King Sr. who was also J. R.'s step-son and son-in-law (he was married to Grace Watkins). Maude was the Home Economist for the J. R. Watkins Company in the 1930's thru the early 1950's. Her husband was D. C. Alexander and he was a vice-president at Watkins. Maude wrote several cook books and a Household Hints book. Her home is now called the Alexander Mansion Bed & Breakfast and is located at the intersection of Kansas Street and Broadway. Maude died on January 20, 1973 at the age of 83.
