J. Christoph Amberger
Biography
J. Christoph Amberger (1963-) was born and grew up in Cold-War West Berlin. He studied at the Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), Aberdeen University (Scotland), and the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Germany) before obtaining his M.A. at the St. John's College Graduate institute in Annapolis Maryland.
He emigrated to the United States in 1989. An avid competitive fencer, he is considered one of the foremost authorities on Western swordplay. His 1998 book "The Secret History of the Sword" continues to be one of the perennial bestsellers of Western martial arts historiography.
Joining financial publishing house Agora Inc. as a researcher and writer in 1988, he became Vice President of the company and Executive Publisher of the Taipan Group (which he grew into a $28-million business) and TodaysFinancialNews.com. He retired from his position in January 2010.
In 2009, Amberger made his debut as a novelist with his conspiracy thriller "The Lazarus Smile".
He now heads Secret Archives Press LLC, a Baltimore-based publishing company.
