Dale Atrens received a B.A. from the University of Windsor, an A.M. from Hollins College, and a Ph.D. from Rutgers University. He has held appointments at universities in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. He is currently a Reader in psychobiology at the University of Sydney.

He is the author of several neuroscience textbooks and a number of popular books on diet and lifestyle.is a Reader in Psychology at the University of Sydney. He is the author of 'Don't Diet!' (also published as 'Reclaim Your Body, Reclaim Your Life'), the 1990 bestseller which was part of the backlash against dieting and 'The Power of Pleasure' which is the result of ten years' research into the dieting culture, and the facts and fallacies which surround it.. Fans of his work include Bill Bryson and Maggie Beer.
