Short biography
Marcelle Auclair was born in France but grew up in Chile. She returned to France as a young woman, married writer Jean Prévost, and had 3 children. In 1937, she helped create Marie-Claire, a magazine that combined American style features with French fashion sense. According to her autobiography, Auclair wrote most of the columns in the first 12 issues. She loved fashion and beauty, but was an intellectual who went on to write biographies of St. Teresa of Avila and others.
