Illustrator and cancer survivor Chris Ayers will discuss his book, The Daily Zoo Year 2: Still Keeping the Doctor at Bay with a Drawing a Day, on Tuesday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Bookstore in Coffman Memorial Union, 300 Washington Ave. S.E. Minneapolis. After a yearlong treatment and recovery from leukemia, Chris Ayers started a sketchbook called “The Daily Zoo.” He achieved his initial goal of drawing one animal per day and published them in The Daily Zoo: Volume 1. Ayers found the process so rewarding and therapeutic that he kept right on drawing. The Daily Zoo Year 2 offers even more furry and feathered friends along with continuing reflections on his life as an artist and a cancer survivor. This work features 365 distinct critters from curious pandas to sinister hyenas along with Ayer’s commentary about his cancer experience, the source of his artistic inspiration, and his creative methods. Ayers will sign copies of his book following the discussion. This event is free and open to the public.
