Paul Baer is a Ph.D. candidate in the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley. His research in the area of ecological economics focuses on both ecological and economic modeling and on the equity implications of various climate policy alternatives.
With Tom Athanasiou he is the cofounder and coordinator of EcoEquity, an organization that aims to catalyze an honest public debate about the real demands of global environmental justice, and more specifically, to campaign -- within the United States -- for a phased transition to a fair, global, second generation climate treaty based on equal per capita rights to the atmospheric commons. EcoEquity published Climate Equity Observer, a free online newsletter available at www.ecoequity.org or by e-mail. [adapted from Dead Heat (2002), which Baer wrote with Tom Athanasiou]
