Fierce Reads Tour with Anna Banks, Leigh Bardugo, Jessica Brody, Emmy Laybourne, and Gennifer Albin -- Gables
Books & Books - Coral Gables, Wednesday, June 12 at 7pm
Anna Banks grew up in a small town called Niceville (yes, really). She now lives in Crestview, Florida, with her husband and their daughter. Anna’s first novel, Of Poseidon, was a Macmillan Fierce Reads title, and the follow up -- Of Triton -- infuses Emma and Galen’s points of view humor, intrigue, and waves of romance. Leigh Bardugo was born in Jerusalem, gew up in Los Angeles, and graduated from Yale University. These days, she hides out in Hollywood, where she indulges her fondness for glamour, ghouls, and costuming in her other life as a makeup artist in Hollywood. She can occasionally be heard singing with her band, Captain Automatic. Siege and Storm is the sequel to her first novel, Shadow and Bone, a New York Times bestseller. Jessica Brody is the author of 52 Reasons to Hate My Father, My Life Undecided, and The Karma Club. Sometimes she wishes her memories could be erased so she could reread all her favorite books for the first time. Unremembered is a compelling and suspenseful new sci-fi series, set in a world where science knows no boundaries, memories are manipulated, and true love can never be forgotten. Emmy Laybourne is a novelist, teacher, and former character actress. Before her life as an author, Emmy performed original comedy on Comedy Central, MTV, and VH1; and acted in the movies Superstar, The In-Laws, and Nancy Drew, among others. Nowadays, Emmy loves working on the Monument 14 trilogy, and lives outside New York City with her husband, two kids, and a flock of six nifty chickens. Gennifer Albin holds a Masters degree in English Literature from the University of Missouri. A recovering academic, she turned to writing her own books. Gennifer can be found in coffee shops, dreaming up new worlds. Her debut novel, Crewel, was written for NaNo 2010.

The Fierce Reads Tour, featuring Anna Banks, Leigh Bardugo, Jessica Brody, and Emmy Laybourne
Boulder Book Store, Friday, June 7 at 6:30pm
Join us for a very special event for teen authors Anna Banks, Leigh Bardugo, Jessica Brody, and Emmy Laybourne as they talk about their Fierce Reads on Friday, June 7th at *6:30pm*!
Anna Banks, author of Of Triton In this sequel to Of Poseidon, Emma has learned that her mother is a Poseidon princess, and now struggles with an identity crisis: as a Half-Breed, she’s a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm. Her mother’s reappearance turns the Poseidon and Triton Kingdoms against one another. Should Emma keep herself safe, or should she risk it all to save a people she’s never known?
Leigh Bardugo, author of Siege & Storm In this sequel to Shadow & Bone, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity a secret. But when the Darkling emerges with a terrifying new power, Alina returns to the country she abandoned. She must choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her—or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.
Jessica Brody, author of Unremembered When Flight 121 went down, no one expected to find a live girl among the wreckage. Even more strange is that her body is unharmed and she has no memories. Crippled by a world she doesn’t know and haunted by a threat she can’t remember, Seraphina struggles to piece together her past. Her only hope is a boy who claims to know her. But can she trust him? And can he protect her from those who’ve made her forget?
Emmy Laybourne, author of Monument 14: Sky on Fire Trapped in a store by a series of disasters, Dean and Alex worked together with 12 other kids to build a refuge in Monument 14. In this sequel, Dean stays in the store with Astrid and the younger kids, and Alex heads out into the devastation with Niko and some others. If they can get to the airport, they might be evacuated to safety. But the outside world is much worse than they expected.
This is a FREE teen event, open to all!

About Leigh Bardugo, Shadow & Bone Leigh Bardugo's incredible young adult debut Shadow & Bone has a little bit of everything teens want: romance, action, a spunky heroine, and plenty of surprise twists. It is a magical tale of a refugee girl thrust into the magical elite when she learns that she has a dormant power that may be the only thing that can destroy the Shadow Fold, a swath of darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. She is fond of glamour, ghouls, and costuming, and gets to indulge all of these fancies in her other life as a makeup artist. She lives in Chestnut Ridge, New York, with her husband and their two children. About Lish McBride, Hold Me Closer, Necromancer A hilarious urban fantasy novel by Seattle author Lish McBride, Hold Me Closer, Necromancer was a William C. Morris Debut Award finalist and a YALSA Top Ten Best Fiction for Young Adults. The Los Angeles Times said, "There's a Mad-magazine-meets-Twilight sensibility to Hold Me Closer, Necromancer that will keep readers turning pages and laughing all the way.” The sequel, Necromancing the Stone goes on sale in September. About Marissa Meyer, Cinder Now a New York Times Bestseller, this fresh, fierce take on Cinderella is a little bit fairytale, a little bit Terminator, and totally genius! Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She's a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Fierce Reads Tour in San Diego
Mysterious Galaxy, Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 7pm
Mysterious Galaxy is proud to welcome the Fierce Reads author tour to San Diego.
School’s out for summer, so what better time for a visit from a troupe of young adult debut authors with Fierce Reads? Kate and Bunny are particular fans of Marissa Meyer’s Cinder, a Cinderella story with “cyborgs, lunars, deadly plagues and threatening war.” (See Bunny’s review here.)
Anna Banks’s Of Poseidon is a novel about a teenage girl who learns she has the gift Of Poseidon and can communicate with fish—and gorgeous mermen – perfect for a coastal city like San Diego.
See Maryelizabeth’s review here of make-up artist and author Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone, a dark fantasy with elements of Russian mythology.
Jennifer Bosworth’s Struck includes an earthquake-devastated Los Angeles, doomsday cults, a teenage lightning addict, the importance of individuality, and the end of the world.
With four novels to her name, and a fifth, 52 Reason to Hate My Father, on the way, Jessica Brody is the voice of experience in the group. Her novels for teens are The Karma Club, and My Life Undecided, which deal with the difficulties of life sans paranormal elements.
Monument 14 received a starred review from Publishers Weekly, stating, “Actress/screenwriter Emmy Laybourne’s debut ably turns what could have been yet another postapocalyptic YA novel into a tense, claustrophobic, and fast-paced thriller.”
More information about the Fierce Reads authors may be found on their Facebook page here.
And their very short musical book trailer is here.
Leigh Bardugo is also signing in Redondo Beach on June 28th.
Location: Street: 7051 Clairemont Mesa Blvd Additional: Ste 302 City: San Diego, Province: California Postal Code: 92111-1040 Country: United States (added from IndieBound)
