Charles Laurence Barber was Reader in English Language and Literature at Leeds and wrote on the history of the English language; he sometimes used the name C. L. Barber or Charles L. Barber.
Confusingly, Cesar Lombardi Barber (b.1913) was Professor of Literature at UC Santa Cruz and wrote on Shakespeare and Early Modern Poetry, usually also publishing under the name C. L. Barber; while a Charles Barber who is neither of the former wrote Sparks notes on Shakespeare.
