Short biography
Louisa Mary Bacon, the daughter of Richard Mackenzie Bacon and Jane Louisa Noverre, worked with her father in editing the Quarterly Musical Magazine and Review. She had a beautiful singing voice and natural talent for playing music, and became an accomplished musician. She married John Barwell, a wine merchant in Norwich, and the couple had five children. Louisa Barwell published articles in the Quarterly Journal of Education and wrote several educational works for and about children, including Childhood Hours (1851), which Queen Victoria ordered for her own children to read.
