NPR's review called this Runyonesque, so how could I not read it? I did really enjoy LB's writing quite a bit, but nothing can quite reach the heights of all-time genius of the world Damon Runyon (even if LB did refer to members of a crowd as 'citizens'). The flavor of modern NYC, and particularly the garment industry (for which I have much sympathy and interest), is strong like Runyon's Broadway, if less inventive. All in all, nice. Contemporary fiction is usually disappointing to me (content and style-wise), so I'm pleased with this.… (more)
