Tijdens een lezing komt ze in aanraking met schrijfster Yvonne Kroonenberg die haar introduceert bij Uitgeverij Contact. In 1995 verschijnt daar haar debuut De weg naar het noorden. Hiermee kiest ze voor het schrijversschap.
