Herman Bianchi (Rotterdam, 1924) baarde als hoogleraar criminologie opzien met zijn kritiek op het hedendaagse strafrecht. Ook vervulde hij – ongewild – als Karel Ravelli een bijrol in Voskuils Het Bureau. Na zijn pensioen nam Bianchi een nieuwe voornaam aan, Thomas, en legde hij zich toe op de mystiek en het schrijven van gedichten.
