Mr. Black, a Jamaican, is the island's Government Archivist. His writing has ranged widely in scope and form, from the short story to purely professional archival works. Most of his writings, however, has been concerned with the story of his country's past, and his publications in this field include a history of Spanish Town, the island's oldest capital, a collection of tales and the history of Jamaica used as the standard text in the island's schools.
