Writers In the Spotlight Roy Blount, Jr. reads from Alphabetter Juice. We are so excited to be able to welcome one of America's foremost humorists to Concord! Roy Blount, Jr., prolific author, frequent guest on NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me! and A Prairie Home Companion, and (on a serious note) past president of the Author's Guild, will be our guest in the Writers in the Spotlight partnership we have with the Capitol Center for the Arts. He will be here to read from and sign copies of his new book, Alphabetter Juice, which is the sequel to his book Alphabet Juice. Roy Blount Jr. has made his living using words in every medium, print or electronic, except greeting cards. After his twenty-first book, "Alphabet Juice" (2008), it finally seemed he'd gotten over his ABC's. But a single glass of Juice could never contain the etymological goulash that always simmers on the back burner of Blount's mind. Thus, "Alphabetter Juice," a second helping of Blount's dexterous wordplay and linguistic legerdemain. Rather than proper English, Blount prescribes an "over-the-counter" melange of a language, unearthing a slew of factoids, fripperies, and flabbergasting phenomena that will change the way you speak --or misspeak. Tickets for the show are $6 each, and are available either at the bookstore or at the Capitol Center. (bookconscious)… (more)
Roy Blount, Jr. Roy Blount JrRoy Blount, Jr. will be on hand to sign copies of his book, Alphabet Juice (now in paperback), and chat with customers. In Alphabet Juice, Blount celebrates the electricity, the juju, the sonic and kinetic energies of letters and their combinations in this amusing, often hilarious romp through the English language. Blount is the author of twenty previous books, covering subjects from the Pittsburgh Steelers to Robert E. Lee to what dogs are thinking. (booksense)… (more)
