Ilona Borská was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Her education was interrupted at age 14 by World War II, and finally completed after the war. She began as a typist at the publishing firm Albatros, which later published her earliest works. In 1952, she married Ivo Stuka, a poet, with whom she had three children. She was a radio journalist and editor for 10 years (1951-1961), and then began teaching sociology at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Czech Technical University. She wrote poetry, fiction, and biographies and other works for young people.
