Antoinette-Charlotte, Comtesse de La Bouëre, was married to an aristocratic army officer killed while fighting for the royalist side in the civil war following the French Revolution known as the War in the Vendee (1793-1796). Her memoirs provide important testimony on life during this tumultuous period in French history. She was a correspondent and friend of Madame de La Rochejaquelein, who also wrote a memoir.
