US ambassador Bowers served in Chile during the time of four presidents of Chile between 1939 to 1953. Describes the country and its people, and goes into the democratic nature of the society and its politics. He is happy to see that a nascent capitalist entrepreneurship is emerging and cites many potentials. Recounts the early development of the nitrate and the copper industries with Guggenheim and Braden Copper companies leading the way.
