Sir John Bowing was an superior linguist, speaking and reading in over 100 languages. He translated many foreign poems and songs into English. He traveled widely. He was a proponent of simplifying the English monetery system and invented the florin when acting as Ambassador. He is considered responsible for starting a war between China and England.
