Our New & Notable Book Club is reading Palisades Park for our April meeting held on the fourth Sunday of the month: Sun., 4/28/13, 6:15pm.

While we don't charge a membership fee for our Avid Book Clubs, the only way we can offer you this free service is if you buy the book club books from Avid. You can order online here and request in-store pickup if you'd like to save on shipping costs.

KPBS will host authors Zohreh Ghahremani, Alan Brennert and Luis Urrea as well as "KPBS Midday Edition" host, Maureen Cavanaugh on February 29th at 7:00pm at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center: 404 Euclid Ave. San Diego, CA 92102. Warwick's will be on hand to sell books. The event is free, but please RSVP here.

About the event: Join us to kick off this special year of reading! The 2012 One Book program will feature three books, one at a time. Sky of Red Poppies by Zohreh Ghahremani will be featured January through March. Moloka’i by Alan Brennert will be featured April and May, and Into the Beautiful North by Luis Urrea will be featured June and July.

This event will kick off the year by celebrating all three. Special guests include authors Zohreh Ghahremani, Alan Brennert and Luis Urrea as well as "KPBS Midday Edition" host, Maureen Cavanaugh.

The presentation will be followed by a reception including refreshments and an opportunity to purchase the featured books from Warwick’s bookstore and meet the authors.

Honolulu by Alan Brennert follows the life a “picture bride” from Korea as her fortunes intertwine with the growth of Hawaii. It is a lovely book with vignettes featuring figures from history. Clarence Darrow, Somerset Maugham, and many others make brief appearances. The fiction book club should have a good time with this discussion. (booksense)… (more)
