Abstract

This project, Motivating The Motivated, is designed to get the best results from
members of musical ensembles, who are already motivated enough to sign up for the
class.
The research summarized in the review of literature is supportive of the benefits
of intrinsic motivation over extrinsic. Extrinsic motivation is not without its benefits, but
to a large degree is overused, and, more often than not, used ineffectively. Intrinsic
motivation is not only the better way for motivation to thrive in the classroom, but also
the best way for true and meaningful learning to take place. These intrinsic qualities are
in all human beings and merely need to be connected to the day to day operations of the
ensemble.
The results of this project will be of great aid to musical ensemble directors who
wish to see a rise in the level of student learning and student achievement within their
