Established in 1753, the township was often called "the Crossroads" because of its connections to the surrounding areas. In 1856, the North Pennsylvania Railroad awakened the small town of Center Valley, and, with the growth from its industries and annual cattle sale, Coopersburg petitioned to become a distinct borough in 1879.
