Short biography
EMMA MACALIK BUTTERWORTH (1928-2003) was born and educated in Vienna, where she became a student of the corps de ballet of the Vienna State Opera at the age of eight. She remained with the corps de ballet, ultimately as a dancer, until the Opera was destroyed during World War Two.

An American citizen for nearly a half-century, she enjoyed her retirement at her residence overlooking Mobile Bay until she died in her sleep, on her 75th birthday, September 5, 2003, awaiting another sunset.
