PEN Canada Benefit: The Judicious Use of Solitude – A Conversation with David Cronenberg
Crime, disease and philosophy entangle themselves in David Cronenberg
‘s dark debut novel, Consumed
. At PEN Canada‘s Benefit on the opening night of the International Festival of Authors, philosopher Mark Kingwell will discuss how these themes relate to Cronenberg’s decades-long engagement with writers like J.G. Ballard, William Burroughs, Brett Easton Ellis and Vladimir Nabokov.
All proceeds from the event will go to PEN Canada, a nonpartisan organization of writers that works with others to defend freedom of expression as a basic human right, at home and abroad. PEN Canada promotes literature, fights censorship, helps free persecuted writers from prison and assists writers living in exile in Canada.
