Short biography
Countess Marguerite Cassini's father, Arturo, was an Italian-Russian aristocrat who served Tsar Nicholas II of Russia as foreign minister for China and ambassador to the USA. Her mother, a vaudeville singer, was considered déclassé by Russian society, and Marguerite sometimes served as her father's hostess at diplomatic events. She married Alexander Loiewski, another Russian diplomat, who adopted his wife's last name. She wrote her memoirs, entitled Never a Dull Moment (1956).
