Anne Chaplet is the pen name of Cora Stephan, born in Strang, near Bad Rothenfelde, Germany. She studied in Hamburg and Frankfurt and earned a teaching degree in 1973. She obtained a PhD in 1976 with a thesis on the history of German social democracy in the 19th century. From 1976 to 1984, she taught at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Frankfurt. In 1985, she became a journalist working for the German news magazine Der Spiegel. Since 1998, she has used the pseudonym Anne Chaplet for her popular crime fiction. She was awarded the Deutscher Krimi Preis for her work twice -- in 2001 and 2004 -- and the Radio Bremen Krimipreis in 2003.
