Repetition. Some people HATE books that have repetition. However, repetition is vital to a child's early learning. "Who's the Biggest" is a great book that has both repetition and some big words that can be expanded. Think of it this way--the repetition is their "zone of proximal development" (it's right where they should be.) Using bigger words or talking about synonyms is scaffolding....it's making the experience just a little bit harder.

Pages go like this:

"I AM" trumpets the elephant to the butterfly
"I AM" gurgles the fishbowl to my goldfish
"I AM" warns the hammer to the nail

See what I mean?

It's nothing spectacular. But it is full of extension possibilities which makes "Who's the Biggest" a definite read for the younger ages.… (more)
