This is a completely hilarious book, the only language book I’ve ever read and finished. In fact, it was entirely unputdownable, I became that irritating type who is reading bits out loud all the time. No wonder it went through a bunch of reissues.
The back cover continues the theme of the title promising:
Perfect Greek by 2029…Or your money back!*

Hilarious. Incidentally not un-useful for understanding a bit about the modern Greek language. The anecdotes are very good. The one serious note, an essay about the author's doomed love for a Greek girl, strikes a completely different tone from the rest of the book, but it just barely manages to avoid crossing over to the maudlin side, and gives the book an honesty and complex dimension it wouldn't otherwise have. Short--a good travel read if you're going to Greece!
