Gr 9 Up—Powerhouse authors Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, and Nicola
Yoon intertwine tales of romance over the course of a New York City blackout. Love is represented in many
forms—sizzling and sweet—and these resonant entries featuring different Black characters will have readers longing
for summer nights and first love.

Gr 3–7—Ella is the first Conjurer to attend the Arcanum Training Institute, and she can't wait to hone her magical
skills. But she's stuck spending most of her energy dealing with the other students' (and teachers') prejudices
against Conjurers. This is a stellar example of a fresh take on the magic school subgenre.

I enjoyed this a bit more than the 1st book, but am just as frustrated with Camille. Unforgiving to the 'I'm sorry' of others, she barely offers the same to others that she wrongs. And the degree of selfishness that she displays is stupefying.

I get that she was only 16/17, but good lord the girl couldn't draw a conclusion or make a stand to save her life---almost literally. I felt that she never stopped to think about anything but what she was going to wear. My grandmother used to say that if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

I have a lot of hopes for the next books because the worldbuilding in this is a solid base to build upon. Despite my issues, I will purchase the ebook and audio (if offered) versions of the next.… (more)
