Catherine Clinton is an U.S. historian specializing in the history of the South. She holds a chair in American history at Queen’s University Belfast, where she founded a master’s degree program in U.S. history.
She previously taught at Union College, Brandeis University, Wesleyan University and Harvard University, in both the Department of African American Studies and the Department of History.
She has served on the Executive Council of the Society of American Historians and the Advisory Commission of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Bicentennial Commission.
She is a member of the Advisory Council of the Ford’s Theatre Foundation in Washington, D.C., and on the editorial boards of Civil War History and Civil War Times.
She has served as president of the Southern Association for Women's History. She has consulted on projects for WGBH-TV, and is a member of the Screen Writers Guild. Professor Clinton has written or edited more than 25 books.
