The best part? Leslie Cockburn will be joining in the discussion!
Set in post-Hussein Iraq, amidst the turmoil of a shattered society, Baghdad Solitaire is a thriller so believable, you wonder, not if, but how much was real. Dr. Lee Mcguinness is a trauma surgeon on a humanitarian mission. But she's also on a personal quest to find her friend and companion, Martin Carrigan, who has gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Has he been kidnapped or has he disappeared for his own reasons? The more she learns, the more she comes to wonder, did she ever really know him at all? Combining a journalistic, non-judgemental look at the horrors of war, the merciless opportunism and corruption of reconstruction, and the seething turmoil of a war-torn society with a redemptive and suprisingly human story, Baghdad Solitaire gives us a moving account of the aftermath and effects of our war in Iraq.
