Short biography
Oliver Cowdery was, with Joseph Smith, Jr., an important participant in the formative period of the Latter-Day Saint movement between 1829 and 1836 in New York state, Pennsylvania and Kirtland, Ohio. He became one of the Three Witnesses of the Book of Mormon's golden plates, one of the first Latter Day Saint apostles, and the Second Elder of the Church. He resigned from the Church on April 11, 1838 and continued to practice law in Tiffin, Ohio for a number of years before eventually moving to Richmond, Missouri where he died of complications of tuberculosis at the age of 42.
