This is the sixth book written by this author that I have read and as with the last five she has not disappointed. She writes wonderful books about Ireland.

Back Cover Blurb:
From the moment Danny first saw Angel he was enchanted by her beauty. By the time she was fourteen - a woman with a child's face, long golden hair and sleepy violet-blue eyes - Danny had completely fallen in love with her and dreamed of making her his wife.
But Angel was not interested in Danny. Angel loved Johny Quinn - but Johnny, training to be a boxer, didn't even notice her.
When Angel's pursuit of Johnny ends in disaster and disgrace she leaves for Dublin and thinks her life couldn't possibly be worse. But Fortune has only just begun to turn her wheel, and Angel soon finds that she has a lot further to fall before she can find lasting happiness....

This is the sequel to Dream of Other Days which was a wonderful read. Although this is a good book I don't think it was quite as good as the first.

Back Cover Blurb:
Driven by famine from Kilgoran in 1847, Katy and Jamsie O'Hara seek new lives and fortune in New York - but find the tumbling tenements of the Lower East Side a far cry from the promised land of plenty.....
As Jamsie abandons New York for the railroad and the lure of gold, as Katy's childhood sweetheart Peader struggles with his marriage and his conscience in aristocratic Virginia, as Bridget grows into a lovely young woman with a dangerous suitor, Katy's capacity for hard work and her gift for friendship sustain her in the fight to keep her family from starvation and the other perils of the teeming, corrupt city. And then Dr David Purcell enters her life, offering security, hope for her children's future - and maybe more....… (more)

This authors books are such good sagas based in Ireland.

Back Cover Blurb:
Dolly Devoy, a Dublin girl dressed in apple-green velvet, so sure of herself since she was promoted to work in the office at Jacob's Biscuit Factory - too sure of herself.
She would need to a lord's daughter, like Alice Delahunt, to be that confident . For Alice the path is smooth, a glittering marriage to a hero of the Somme - yet her husband, Stephen, is no hero to Alice. And she must battle with Dolly for the love of another man....… (more)

A great look into another way of life.

Back Cover Blurb:
This account of growing up in inner-city Dublin during the 1930s is a combination of personal memoir and social document. It gives descriptions of pawn-brokers and moneylenders, of how a family could manage life in one room, and of the workings of inner-city communities. Through the author's eyes, we see what people ate, what they wore (how collars were turned, dresses recycled, and children's shoes repainted), what medicines they took, what games they played, and how institutions such as schools, hospitals and hospices were perceived. Against this background, readers are invited to take part in the author's childhood experiences: pre-school plots to murder the neighbour's toddler; youthful attempts to figure out where babies come from, thwarted by the nuns; excursions with her mother to foil her father's 'carryings-on'; and starting work in a sewing factory aged 14 to support the family when her father was dying of tuberculosis.… (more)
