What? Huh? Maybe I am not as intelligent as I thought. Wading through Dacey's prose I think I found some really pertinent points about the relationship between religious belief and public debate. Yes, some very important points, particularly for me the challenge he makes to what he calls the Privacy Fallacy, where people assume they are not allowed to debate religious issues in public because private beliefs are 'personal'. So his argument is a refreshing contrast to, say, Richard Dawkins ("All religion is evil and must not be tolerated".) This is a guy I'd cheerfully have dinner with over Richard Dawkins any day... I'd just have to hope I could understand what he was saying.… (more)
