Short biography
A farmer's son from Norfolk, Daye was expelled from Cambridge for stealing a book and went to London where he became a professional writer. He wrote for Henslowe's playing companies in the years just before and after 1600, then wrote for the children's companies, and later for other public theatre companies. He wrote alone, or collaborated with William Haughton, Thomas Dekker, Henry Chettle, Wentworth Smith, Richard Hathway, Thomas Heywood and others. He was active at least into the 1620s and possibly into the 1630s. John Tatham wrote him a memorial verse.
