Christina De la Gardie was born in Stockholm to an aristocratic, royally-connected Swedish family of French origins. She was one of 14 children of Count Jakob De la Gardie, a statesman and Field Marshal, and his wife Ebba Brahe. She married Gustaf Otto Stenbock and became the mother of Magnus Stenbock. She was admired by her contemporaries for her work on prestige projects such as the Renaissance style manor of Hässelbyholm in Strängnäs.
