I absolutely loved the illustrations in this book and so did my grandson. It is Christmas Eve and Santa's sled is in being repaired, Santa does not know how he will deliver all the gifts. In steps Baby Santa with a plan. Using transportation that is indigenous to each country they can travel and deliver all the gifts. Santa still has his magic to make this possible. With the help of his son, Santa Baby, they travel by double decker bus, gondola, jeep, kayak, camel and more to travel around the world. It is great to see that Santa listened to his son and that the young boy was able to come up with a solution. I recommend this book to any family to add to their Christmas library.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I really liked this book. This book is a mother bee explaining to her little one why she has to go to work and can't stay with her child. I liked the book overall, but there were some things about this book that frustrated me. They asked a repetitive question about each member of the community and what they would do at the end of the work day. These questions never got answered, but I guess the whole point of this book was to show that everyone had to do work before they were able to have fun, otherwise nothing in the community would ever get done. Another thing that frustrated me was that the book was so long and after a certain point, the younger children would lose interest in it. The only way I could think that this book would work is dividing the book up and not reading it all in one sitting or making it an interactive book. This book would be great for a unit on communities and how people work together which is one of the themes in the book. The other is that you can't always play because there is work to be done. Once the work gets done, then you can play.… (more)

Use: this is a super cool book to talk about people who bring joy to others, or how there are some children who don't get to go to school because they have medical problems that are more important to deal with. This would be a cool book to introduce the idea of a class becoming pen pals with students their age that are in children's hospitals most of the time if not all of the time.
Critique: I thought this book was a great way for students to learn about the medical issues that affect students their age. Often I think children believe that these things don't exist or don't affect them, and informative books like this aren't meant to scare children but show them that the things they find too distant from them are actually realities they can make a difference in or just be aware of and build their ability to have empathy. This would also be a great book to share with a student who is diagnosed with epilepsy to help them feel related to and to help them understand the emotions they are experiencing.… (more)

I admit I was skeptical about The Great Katie Kate. But, like the way she helped Suzy, my worries went away. The story honestly explains the possible steps in diagnosing and treating cancer, and draws on a child's everyday experiences to help them make non-frightening connections. I was surprised that some of the testing was listed as little more than a "pinch." That's never been my experience with a biopsy.

Pros: Clear, calm explanations about cancer make this a very special book to share with children who may be diagnosed with cancer, are preparing for treatment, and/or their siblings, friends, and classmates.
