Elisabeth Dhanens (° Eeklo, 1915) was de pionier van de studie van het kunstpatrimonium op provinciaal niveau en verzorgde acht delen van de Inventaris van het kunstpatrimonium van Oost-Vlaanderen. Als alomgewaardeerde autoriteit op kunsthistorisch gebied publiceerde ze ook over onder meer Giovanni Bologna, het Lam Godsretabel, de gebroeders van Eyck, Rogier Van der Weyden en Hugo van der Goes.
Art Historian Dr. Elisabeth Dhanens passed away on 11 March 2014 at the age of ninety-eight. From 1946 until 1952, she was associated with the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage in Brussels. She was the inspector of art patrimony with the provincial government of East Flanders from 1952 until 1976. Dhanens was an honorary member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts. She published many academic works, the most famous of which was her study of the Van Eyck brothers.
