I thoroughly enjoyed this book of interviews with people who personally knew Guruji (Sri K Pattabhi Jois -- the founder of the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute). Many of them are also advanced practitioners of ashtanga yoga. There's a good deal of repetition in the questions asked, but the answers introduce a surprising range of perspectives, and yet collectively give a very consistent and very moving portrait of Guruji and of the ashtanga system. In the end, the book is much more than a portrait of a man (and in many ways he remains a bit mysterious): it's a testament to the power of yoga and its deeper meanings and aims.

The interviews with Brad Ramsey and Nick Evans stood out in particular, but I found every single interview interesting in some way. As a whole, a really inspiring and moving book, if you have any interest in yoga at all.… (more)
