Following the success of Deep Blue - the first book in Jennifer Donnelly's Waterfire Saga comes the second book in the series - ROGUE WAVE. In the book Serafina, Neela, Ling, Ava, Becca, and Astrid, six mermaids from realms scattered throughout the seas and freshwaters, are summoned by the leader of the river witches to learn an incredible truth: the mermaids are direct descendants of the Six Who Ruled-powerful mages who once governed the lost empire of Atlantis. The ancient evil that destroyed Atlantis is stirring again, and only the mermaids can defeat it. To do so, they need to find magical talismans that belonged to the Six.
Jennifer Donnelly is the author of three novels for adults: The Tea Rose, A Northern Light – which was awarded the Carnegie Medal, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and was named a Printz Honor book, The Winter Rose, and Humble Pie, a picture book for children, illustrated by Caldecott Medalist Stephen Gammell. Her inspiration for Deep Blue and the Waterfire Saga came from an unusual source; the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen. In particular his dresses that looked as if they’d been cut from white waves or fashioned from seaweed, razor clam shells, and abalone, that so enchanted Donnelly that she simply "...had to write a story about it."
Donnelly lives in New York's Hudson Valley with her husband, daughter, and Hannibal Lecter, a snapping turtle, whom they love dearly, but from a distance.
