Per the ISFDB - "Mammoth" books are numbered 4 LESS than the corresponding "The Years Best..." and "Best New SF" are numbered 3 LESS than "The Years Best..." as they started in 1987 with "The Mammoth Book of Best New SF" - corresponding to The Fourth Annual Collection of "The Year's Best Science Fiction."
