In 1825, Helen Selina Sheridan married Capt. Price Blackwood and with him became Helen Selina Blackwood, 4th baroness Dufferin and Claneboye (Lady Dufferin); and later Helen Selina Hay, countess of Gifford. She was the granddaughter of the playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan. Her mother was the novelist Caroline Henrietta Sheridan and her sister the writer Carolina Norton.
