Elizabeth Eiloart was born Elizabeth Darby Adams in London. In 1849, she married Carl J.G. Eiloart, with whom she had six children. She wrote numerous children's books and novels. She was feminist and a writer for the English Woman's Journal from its establishment in 1858, becoming its editor in 1864. Her other nonfiction works included The Laws Relating to Women (1878).
