Giulio Einaudi founded the publishing company named for him in Turin in 1933, and built it into a rich source of literature, intellectual thought and political theory. During his nearly 70- year career he befriended and published many literary and cultural figures in Italy and Europe, including Carlo Levi, Antonio Gramsci, Cesare Pavese, Natalia and Leone Ginzburg, Italo Calvino, and Primo Levi.
He earned a degree in medicine but never practiced.
