William A. Ewing is an internationally respected specialist in photography, a writer, exhibition curator, professor, and museum director. After founding Optica Center for Contemporary Art in Montreal in 1972, he moved to New York in 1977 to take up the post as Director of Exhibitions at the International Center of Photography. In 1991 he moved to London as a freelance curator and author, and in 1996 was appointed Director of the Musée de l'Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he remains today. The Musée de l'Elysée is considered one of the world's foremost institutions specializing in photography. Over the years Ewing's exhibitions have been shown at many world class locations internationally, including the Serpentine Gallery (UK), the Wellcome Institute (UK), The Centre Pompidou (France), the Museum of Modern Art (USA) and Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Canada).  Ewing has published several books, including The Body, Love & Desire, Face: The New Photographic Portrait, and has contributed to numerous magazines and newspapers. He lectures widely on the international circuit and for five years has taught the history of photography at the University of Geneva.
