SCBWI Panel at 57th Street Books
Seminary Co-op Bookstore, Friday, April 18 at 6:30pm
Date: Friday, April 18th Time: 6:30-8 p.m. Celebrate the arrival of warmer weather with hot new YA books. The SCBWI Hyde Park/South Side network is hosting a powerhouse panel discussion with award-winning young adult authors, who will share the perils and joys of writing for an older audience, the hot hot hot YA market, the job of selling their books, and the pressure to write that sequel. Please message KateHannigan@gmail.com to RSVP. More about our YA authors: CHRISTA DESIR writes contemporary fiction for young adults. Her first book, Fault Line, came out this fall. Her second book, BLEED LIKE ME, is due out in October 2014. Her third book, LOVE BLIND, is slated for fall 2015 release. She lives with her husband, three small children, and overly enthusiastic dog outside of Chicago. She has volunteered as a rape victim activist for more than ten years, including providing direct service as an advocate in hospital ERs. She also works as an editor at Samhain Publishing. Visit her at http://ChristaDesir.com. ELIZABETH FAMA is the YA author most recently of Plus One, an alternate-history thriller set in contemporary Chicago, in which half the population must live at night, and half during the day. Her other books include MONSTROUS BEAUTY, a YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults selection and an Odyssey honor winner, and OVERBOARD, an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, a society of Midland Authors honor book, and a nominee for five state awards. A graduate of the University of Chicago, where she earned a B.A. in biology and an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in economics, Beth has occasionally ruined cocktail conversations by joking that she is such an entrenched Chicago native, her corpse will eventually replace the aging Body Slices exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry. http://www.elizabethfama.com/ PHILIP SIEGEL grew up in New Jersey, which he insists is much nicer than certain TV shows would have you believe. He graduated from Northwestern University and promptly moved out to Los Angeles, where he became an NBC Page (proof below). He likes to think that the character of Kenneth on 30 Rock is loosely based on his life rights. Currently, he lives in Chicago and does his best writing sandwiched in between colorful characters on the El. http://www.philipsiegel.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/philipsiegelwrites Twitter: @FillupSeagull Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7020466.Philip_Siegel KRISTINA SPRINGER is the author of: the young adult novel, THE ESPRESSOLOGIST (Macmillan/FSG), which has been published in seven countries, was purchased for film by Vuguru and is being produced as a web series, and was a 2010 Society of School Librarians International Honor Book and recently named a 2014 Illinois Reads book; the middle-grade novel, My Fake Boyfriend is Better Than Yours (Macmillan/FSG), which was a Scholastic Book Club Bestseller and a 2012 YALSA QUICK PICK; the young adult novel, JUST YOUR AVERAGE PRINCESS (Macmillan/FSG); and two ebook only young adult novels, THE PAPARAZZI PROJECT and BOY SWAP.
